Froi of the Exiles: Week Five

Apr 6, 2013

It's the end of the Lumatere Chronicles Read-Along! I've seen a few comments on Twitter and Goodreads indicating that people have now finished Froi of the Exiles. Woohoo! We made it, ladies!

Rather than ask any questions this week, I thought I'd just publish this short little post to ask what you thought of the book as a whole. I'd love to hear your final thoughts on everything that happened in Froi! And I'm definitely curious about whether or not you'll be diving into Quintana of Charyn any time soon. Thank you so much for reading these books along with me! I've really enjoyed being able to talk through my questions and debate these characters with you.

So, let me know what you thought and let's discuss!

I'd Be His Fictional Mrs.

Apr 2, 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/Top Ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists!

Top Ten Characters I Would Crush On
If I Was Also A Fictional Character

1. Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice - Don't act like you are even a little bit surprised that this man is on my list. You better believe I'll stick Darcy on any list where he fits. Handsome, rich and ultimately amazing... Yeah, I'd move to Pemberley with him.

2. Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables Series - He should actually be in the first heart because 1) I've loved him the longest and 2) I love him THE MOST. Oh, Gil. What don't you have going for you? Looks, intelligence, sass, loyalty, patience... need I go on?

3. Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games Trilogy - I'm the girl who wrote a post called He's Peetalicious, so you had to know I was going to include this fella on my list. Seriously, Katniss does not appreciate him. I'd fight her (in the Arena and everything) to make him mine.

4. Frederick Wentworth from Persuasion - He's hardworking, quiet and writes a damn good letter. I'm pretty sure we'd get along quite nicely in our life together. I'd also give him lots of bonus points if he happened to discover some sort of treasure while out at sea.

5. Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races - He's strong, mostly silent, rides horses and wins money. In my book, that's a winning combination. I also adore his fierce love for Thisby - I'd totally move there to be with him. And we'd live in our little cottage by the sea...

6. Cricket Bell from Lola and the Boy Next Door - I know everyone and their sister falls for Etienne St. Clair, but not this lady. I only have eyes for that tall, slightly geeky boy next door! He has a weird name and makes crazy inventions, but I'd totally be all over this one.

7. Jonah Griggs from Jellicoe Road - At first, I wasn't sure about Jonah. He's a little rough around the edges, and it's hard to get to know the real him. But once you do, holy cow... this is one boy that will have you swooning. Also, he knows how to use his words to win your heart!

8. Adam Wilde from If I Stay and Where She Went - Adam isn't my normal kind of guy, but he totally won me over. I could totally be the girl with the band if Adam was the boy I was following around. Also, he is subject to my "I imagine him as Adam Levine" rule that also replied to Adam Kent (who would have made this list if he wasn't such a pill in Unravel Me), so that gives him bonus points.

9. Dimitri Belikov from Vampire Academy Series - Here's the thing, Dimitri only makes this list IF he agrees to cut his hair. He's pretty swoonworthy in all other areas, but I'm just not digging the lady locks (or least how I imagine them). Otherwise, he's a winner: strong, fierce, quiet, passionate...

10. Roar from Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night - I almost included Perry on this list, too, but I had to go with just Roar. He totally won my heart in these books, and he isn't even the main love interest. Yep, I fell for a side character! Does he have a last name? I don't even know. Either way, he's got a great sense of humor. Bonus: he'll search for you and fight for you. Done and done.

Froi of the Exiles: Week Four

Mar 30, 2013

We're getting so close ladies! Once I started this section, I just couldn't stop reading. I'm really loving Froi's journey, but I've loved getting to see more of Lucian and Phaedra, too. So, let's get to talking!

Discussion questions after the jump!

She Will Be Loved

Mar 28, 2013

Ladies of the Internet, the handsome devil pictured below is Adam Levine. No, he's obviously not from a book as my confession implies. But he IS from a band, so he's got that going for him. Also, his face. And swagger. And tattoos (even though I'm not normally a tattoo lady). And his voice. Sorry, I'll rein it in. Let's continue.

Why am I starting this post about boy book crush requirements off with a photo of Adam? Oh, you know, ONLY BECAUSE I SAW MAROON 5 IN CONCERT LAST NIGHT. Yes, last night. Are there other people in Maroon 5? I don't know. I only have eyes for Adam. Obviously, my brain is still recovering from the swoon and I want to talk about boys.

In addition to that, I mentioned in my review of Unravel Me that I picture book Adam as Adam Levine only because they share the same first name and duh who doesn't want to picture this hottie while you're reading? See, this lady is always right. And Adam Levine will forever be mine fine.

Okay, okay. I'll actually get to the point. Next week's Top Ten Tuesday list is about the top ten characters I'd crush on if I was a fictional character. As I began narrowing down my list, I realized that I have a few "types" when it comes to my book boy crushes. Sooo... I thought it'd be fun to have a little discussion on what typically makes you swoon over a book boy!

Here are the three "book boy crush" types I'm most likely to swoon over:

Source
1. The Man Who Has Always Loved You: Loyal and Patient

I'm a complete and total sucker for the guy that's loved a girl for years and just waits for her to finally realize he's been there for her all along. Would it be slightly creepy and potentially annoying in real life? Maybe, but this is book world. In book world, this man makes me swoon hard. He's loyal and patient, just waiting for you to come to your senses. He's not off screwing around until you do. No, he's too busy working hard and making himself more amazing. And possibly pining over you.

Book Boy Crush Examples: Gilbert Blythe, Frederick Wentworth and Peeta Mellark

2. The Man of Few Words: Strong, Steady and Quiet

Oh, the strong and silent type. Some girls want the life of the party, but I fall for the steady guy you can always count on. He might be quiet, but he says what he means and will always be straight with you. He personifies the saying "still waters run deep." Because when he does speak, it's coming from his heart. He can say more in ten words than some men say in whole conversations.

Book Boy Crush Examples: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Sean Kendrick and Dimitri Belikov

3. The Man Who Makes You Laugh: Playful and Teasing

This one might seem like it's the opposite of book crush type #2, and sometimes it is but not always. I don't fall for the guys who are constantly goofing off, being loud or acting silly. But I DO swoon for the fellas who are a little playful and know how to tease you. You know, the guys that are quick to laugh, even if they aren't the ones cracking jokes. The ones that keep their book girl counterparts on their toes. They are also usually smart, which is a huge bonus!

Book Boy Crush Examples: Roar, Adrian Ishakov and Gilbert Blythe (yes, again)

Now I want to know - do you have book boy crush types?
Are there any similarities between the boys you soon over in books?
